This Virtual Professional Development session, led by Frieda B. author, Renata Bowers is based on the FBTWC Lesson Plan for the first book of the series, Frieda B. and the Finkledee Ink. Bowers leads participants into an exploration of the power of belief. What we believe about self and others tends to greatly dictate our thoughts, decisions, actions.  Therefore if we come to accept the paradigm that each of us has innate gifts to offer to the world in a unique and meaningful way, we pave the way for authentic autonomy and community.  Delving into ELA and SEL objectives related to belief, this session will provide engaging and creative methods for helping each child better understand and internalize:

* consequences to self and others of low self-esteem, respect;
* choices and actions regarding belief that lead to authentic autonomy and community;
* the significance of building competence and confidence in one’s innate gifts;
* the significance of encouraging and complementing the innate gifts of others.

Through her national-award-winning Frieda B. series of picture books, children's author Renata Bowers has developed an engaging method for utilizing written story to inspire the human story within every child... to help each child believe in self (autonomy) and to be part of something good (community), even in the midst of challenging chapters (resilience).

The Frieda B. The Whole Child (FBTWC) ELA/SEL Toolkit & author-led PD is built on this method and book series. FBTWC provides an array of story-based resources to PK-5 educators for sharing with students, staff and families the beauty of using STORIES to move toward meaningful, relevant academic and social success... all the while complementing and enhancing the school's existing English Language Arts (ELA) and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) standards and initiatives.

Frieda B. and the Finkledee Ink Story Summary: When a traveling salesman comes to town selling Finkledee Ink, Frieda B. scrapes together every last penny to purchase a jar for herself. Her hope and belief is that this one jar of ink magically will make her a great writer (a deep longing she holds in her heart). But can a jar of ink truly hold the key to her dream? And if so, what happens to that dream when the jar of ink shatters? (Gasp!) Does her dream shatter, too? Frieda B. and the Finkledee Ink is a story to help children of all ages heartily believe that when it comes to our dreams and our natural gifts, there's nothing we need to buy or get. Nope. Everything is inside of us already. What we do need is dedication, perseverance, and the belief and support of others. And - more importantly - the belief in our very own selves. 8" x 10". Hardcover, full-color. Printed in the USA.
